The diversified ecological resources of Penghu region feature great tourism development potential; in order for the sustainable development of the resources, we wish to promote the emerging volunteer service and travel events in the Penghu region, allowing participants to replace the general consumer entertainments into work services, thereby blending into the local natural and cultural environment, or devote into the ecological conservation tasks for the island, and further stimulate local residents to care about the surrounding environment, therefore accomplishing the goal of local community development and ecological conservation.

Hence, we have specially authorized National Penghu University of Science and Technology to organize two sessions of “2015 Penghu Shili Oceanic Culture and Community Art Volunteer Project” in July and October this year (2015), the event duration for each session is 7-day and 6-night, with domestic and international volunteers as the target for the recruitment, and the event venue is based on Shili village. The main reason is that Shili community is a classic fishing village community in Penghu, which has taken on the unique oceanic culture and traditional fishing village culture; Shili beach is further the memory for old Penghu people during the times when they were students, as it was the most popular bathing beach in Penghu about 20 years ago. Along with the development of the other beaches in Penghu, Shili beach became downfallen, and is further filled with fishing village sentiments without the glamour. This volunteer project is a brand new opportunity for Shili community, which has successfully promoted Shili community through the combination of the existing characteristics, transforming and livening up the community, making it the new highlight for travel in Penghu and even in Taiwan.

Currently, the first session of domestic volunteer project has been successfully completed during the period from July 2nd to July 8th of this year (2015); volunteers participated in the event experienced the traditional fishing village life and assisted local residents in the installation of artworks in the community; moreover, installations including the Shili entrance wall image, color-painted flake cultural wall, Shili community map design and trawling interactive wall were created based on the community images, resulting in truly abundant event outcomes.

Now, the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration will continue to organize the second session of international volunteer recruitment, with the main target for recruitment set on foreign people who are over 18 years old and have passports that are not of Taiwanese nationality; the expected recruitment is 15 people, with the event period from October 2nd to October 8th of this year (2015). Online enrollment will be available as of today, and the deadline for the enrollment is September 14th. If the enrollment exceeds the expected recruitment, the event will establish a selection system based on the professional skills and event experiences of those who enrolled, and the qualified enrollment list will be announced and informed separately.
