“Penghu 101k Hopping Bike”, which was originally planned to be held on September 26th (Sunday) by the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration, Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, has decided to modify its event format in response to the COVID-19 epidemic alert level and preventive measures. The event will now be a two-month-long “101k Hopping Bike Online Self-Challenge”, and we welcome all cyclists in Taiwan to come visit Penghu to enjoy the splendid fall-limited sceneries at our bay.

As impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic beginning this May, all large-scale events that had been planned to take place this fall and winter in Penghu have been cancelled or changed to other event formats. As it is difficult to ask the attendants and the crowd to wear masks and practice social distancing at all times during such a large-scaled cycling event, and considering Taiwan’s COVID cases have been winding down and the country’s COVID-19 vaccination rate gradually on the rise, all government offices are now slowly relaxing on related regulations and moving towards reinitiating public events. In light of this, under the priority set forth to avoid infection risks from gatherings and to actualize epidemic preventive measures, Penghu National Scenic Area Administration will be changing the format of the large-scaled bike event “Penghu 101k Hopping Bike”, originally planned for this year, to “101k Hopping Bike Online Self-Challenge”, where cyclists will be participating in separate groups. The event period will take place between September 1st – October 31st; during this time, cyclists (individual or team) are welcomed to choose a desired date and participate with friends, which are within the limit of the number of people in outdoor gatherings per Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) guideline. People are allowed to register and participate in biking within the 20K Leisure Team, 50K Experience Team, 101K Challenge Team. After their competition, cyclists can upload a screenshot record from their phones’ path tracking app (any app that is able to upload mileage tracking app) or upload a picture of a designated scenic view (along with the bike) to their personal Facebook page, set it to Public, and hashtag the post with “#2021澎湖跳島101K線上自行車活動.” They will then be awarded with a wide variety of competition completion souvenir gifts, a special competition completion stamp certificate, and a chance to win other great prizes.

The Penghu National Scenic Area Administration stated that, “2021 Penghu 101K Hopping Bike Online” is a brand-new competition in Taiwan. In addition to reducing the risks of virus spread from large-scaled gatherings and events, the Penghu government is again collaborating with the Penghu Bicycle Association to provide superior fall led-cycling services. Led by cycling experts, cyclists are able to venture deep into every corner of the alleys and discover the local folk culture and secret everyday hideouts, experiencing an in-depth cycling leisure journey in Penghu. On the other hand, in regards to the transportation and accommodation aspects that cyclists may be concerned with, the Administration has also cooperated with EverFun Holiday, FUNS Travel, and Giant Adventure to integrate dining, accommodation, travel, shopping, and transportation to offer participants an island-hopping cycling trip. Moreover, the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration would also like to remind all cyclists that as they are biking to appreciate the beautiful scenery, they should also thoroughly practice epidemic preventive measures and follow related regulations to protect themselves and others.

Registration for the event begins immediately, and people who register before September 30th will further be eligible for a chance to win a Switch Lite (color will be randomly selected).
