What is there to do in Penghu during the autumn and winter months? This is a common question for those pondering a visit to Penghu outside of the peak summer season. As autumn arrives, the northeast monsoon brings with it crashing waves that create a unique natural phenomenon known locally as “Xian Shui Yan” (salty mists). This mist, formed by sea spray hitting the shore, has deeply influenced Penghu’s culture and way of life. Despite the harsh environment, the people of Penghu have shown remarkable resilience, thriving on this land with steadfast determination.

To celebrate this indomitable spirit, the Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters under the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, has organized the "2024 Penghu Xian Shui Yan Art Festival." Combining art performances with land art installations, the event showcases the lifestyle and cultural beliefs of Penghu residents, allowing visitors from across Taiwan to experience the vibrant life and spirit of the islands.
