Penghu is the westernmost of the three Taiwan counties bisected by the Tropic of Cancer, which runs through an ocean area south of Hujingyu, not far from Hujing Xishan Park.
In 2016, the Penghu National Scenic Administration built “Sun Chasing Avenue” here. The 55-meter-long path is inlaid with maps, names and flags of the 16 countries the Tropic of Cancer passes through. 

The multicolored stone-tile reliefs are both decorative and educational. The walkway provides a comprehensive lesson on the Tropic of Cancer and the nations it traverses.
You can’t miss the two huge hands at the path's end. As the seasons change, the sun's angle varies, and it sets in different places throughout the year. If you’re here at the right time and the sun’s is in the right place, the hands appear to be cupping it as it sets, an enchanting sight.
There are several stone monuments and landscapings which mark the passage of the Tropic of Cancer through Hujing, with the village or the blue sea forming the backdrop. The most popular attraction is the sky ladder, which reads “23.5 I’m in Penghu"––the tropic is 23.5 degrees north of the equator.
