Xiaochijiao Double Curve Bridge, Humu Fish Trap

4223 Update Date:2023-10-30
The Xiaochijiao Double Curve Bridge stretches its arms into the sea, extending straight into the distance. The pure white bridge spans an intertidal zone with two green pavilions, one on the right and on the left. When the weather is good, and the tide is in, the azure sky and the aqua waters interweave, forming a beautiful blue ocean-side vista. When the tide ebbs, exposing an expanse of intertidal bedrock, locals come to gather shellfish or net sea fish.

The Humu stone weir, a fish trap, is on the shore opposite the Double Curve Bridge. Built with basalt rocks in 1947, the fish trap is the only stone weir in Chixi Village. Between the right and left dikes of the fish trap, a weir within it resembles a heart-shaped necklace. Fish swim into the trap during high tide and become stranded when the tide recedes. Fishermen then come to scoop them up –– this is how Penghu people fished in the early days. Remember to check tide times in advance because the weir is only visible when the tide is out.

Because the Humu stone weir is private property, and the intertidal zone is slippery at low tide, please do not enter the area to avoid danger!
