The lighting which pioneered at the “2022 Penghu Autumn Festival” last year catapulted Penghu into the international spotlight as it won the top “Platinum Winner” in the Conceptual Design - Exhibition & Events category at the MUSE Design Awards in the US. This year, the northeast monsoon winds, music, people and culture of Penghu will be combined with the local scenery, culture, and underwater world under the “Luminous Island Ceremony” theme to warmly welcome visitors to Penghu. The Guanyin Temple district will also be lit up during the 2023 Penghu Autumn Festival so that everyone, young and old, can come to chase the wind, follow the lights, and rock to the music.

The lighting was inspired by the unique sea wind of Penghu, and the music festival and lighting were brought together under the “luminous island ceremony” theme which incorporated the elements of “wind”, “light”, “music”, and “story.” The design was focused on the ecology of Penghu and included local “sea creatures”, “islands”, an “ocean.” The “sea, island” motif was used to represent the beaches, sunshine, and bikinis of Penghu in fall. At night, there is the gentle sea breeze, beautiful lights, and the sound of music. Featured for the first time are mobile light sculptures inspired by the local scenery and culture of Penghu. The carnival floats make visitors feel as if they have been transported to Brazil!

The “2023 Penghu Autumn Festival” is set to be one of the highlights of the “8th Penghu Autumn Festival” tourism campaign this year. The festival will kick off with much fanfare at the Guanyin Temple district on August 19. Last year, more than 100,000 visitors gathered in Penghu for the 2022 Penghu Music Festival and generated a huge influx of tourism revenue. A budget boost for the event means more than 17 top performers have been invited. Penghu hopes the event will prove even more popular this year and bring another influx of tourists to the island. 

The “2023 Penghu Music Festival” that will be hosted at Lintou Beach in Penghu on July 14 and 15 will serve as the opening act for “2023 Penghu Autumn Festival.” Ten top indie bands will perform over these two days to bring music to the ears of the young and old alike so they can rock their socks off in Penghu. The “8th Penghu Autumn Festival” not only includes a number of tourist events, but is also offering a “Tourism Discount Passport” with many discount packages to complement the “2023 Penghu Cycling Festival” and “ 2023 Gaillardia Island Penghu Cross-Sea Marathon.” which runs from July 14 through to November 30.
