The Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters (Penghu NSA Headquarters) of the Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications held its annual press conference on January 12, showcasing the achievements in tourism marketing from the past year and outlining the key initiatives for the current year. The Penghu NSA Headquarters expressed gratitude to the media for their longstanding support in marketing and promoting Penghu, contributing to the continuous advancement of tourism development in the Penghu Islands.

In 2023, as pandemic restrictions were gradually lifted, the domestic and international travel markets showed signs of recovery. However, the overall tourism product market still faces challenges due to increased diversification of travel options. As an outlying island, Penghu faced even more formidable challenges. Despite these obstacles, in its concerted efforts to stimulate tourism opportunities in Penghu, the Penghu NSA Headquarters continues to integrate Penghu's tourism resources and plan initiatives to increase the overall appeal of Penghu as a travel destination. Thanks to the diligent work of various departments, the year 2023 has proven to be a year of remarkable achievements, with the Yueli Bay Recreation Area in Qimei and the Suogang Bicycle Rest Area each receiving prestigious awards, including Gold Award in the "2023 FIABCI Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards" and Honorable Mention in the "23rd Public Construction Golden Quality Award. " Additionally, the video "Exploring Penghu - Nazca Lines" earned the top prize in the documentary category at the Amorgos Film Festival in Greece. Furthermore, Jibei Stone Weir was honored with the global "Top 100 Green Destinations Story Awards 2023," while Stone Weir Season received the "Top 10 Event Experiences Award" along with the "Best International Recommendation Award" under the Tourism Spotlight Awards held by the Tourism Administration of the MOTC, the "Penghu Music Festival" achieved remarkable success, securing the Platinum Award under the Exhibition & Events Category of the MUSE Design Awards, the Landscape Innovation category under the Titan Property Awards, while the promotional video for Penghu's tourism circle earned two Gold Awards and one Silver Award at the 2023 Muse Creative Awards. Continuing our commitment to enhancing overall administrative service performance, we have garnered consistent accolades for outstanding achievements. The Xiaomen Geological Museum has been granted the 6S Travel Service Facility Certification. The Penghu Marine Ecotourism Demonstration and Promotion Program clinched the first position in the Tourism Bureau's Innovative Ideas King for 2023. Additionally, the Penghu NSA Headquarters earned the top spot in the annual administrative performance evaluation by the Tourism Bureau for 2023.

In recent years, the Penghu NSA Headquarters has been dedicated to enhancing the overall tourism and recreational environment. In 2023, there were noteworthy achievements in infrastructure development projects, including the construction of the Qimei Visitor Center, renovation of service facilities at the Aimen Beach, improvement of service facilities at Shawei in Jibei, enhancement of geological displays and services at the Beiliao Recreation Area, establishment of the Wude Bicycle Rest Area, and improvement of service facilities at the Lintou Beach Seine Cultural Area. In the current year, the Penghu NSA Headquarters is set to undertake projects such as the reconstruction of the Beihai Visitor Center, interior renovations of the Jibei Visitor Center, development of facilities at the Dongwei Stone Sculpture Park, renovation of the boardwalk at the Lintou Aimen Golden Coast, and improvements to the visitor waiting area at the Tongpan Island, aiming to consistently elevate facility quality and create new tourism highlights.

In the current year's tourism marketing endeavors, apart from organizing regular major classic festivals, the Penghu NSA Headquarters is determined to transform the perception of Penghu's tourism during the off-season and balance the flow of visitors between peak and off-peak periods. The goal is to enhance the overall quality of tourism experiences. In this regard, the Penghu NSA Headquarters actively promotes tourism during the off-peak season. The 2024 Gaillardia Islands Penghu Cross-Sea Marathon – 2024 Spring Wangan Half Marathon will debut on March 31, introducing a distinctive offshore island marathon that explores and captures the beauty and allure of Penghu's Wangan during the spring season. Those who love slow and tranquil travel should not miss this event! In addition to organizing classic festival events such as the 2024 Four Seasons Penghu Travel, 2024 Penghu 101K Island-Hopping Bike Event, 2024 Penghu Music and Light Festival, and the 2024 2024 Gaillardia Islands Penghu Cross-Sea Marathon, the Penghu NSA Headquarters is also hosting thematic and distinctive events under the theme "Good Times in Penghu - Chill and Enjoy," such as "Penghu Green Gold Seaweed Knowledge," "Oyster Shells, Coral, and Turtle DIY Handicrafts," "Fish Printing Fun," "Lintou Beach Seine Fishing Fun," "Chenggong Village Fish Fry Harvesting Fun," "Dried Cauliflower with Neritic Squid Tasting," "Weaving Grass Shoes in Style," and more. These Penghu-themed activities are expected to create unique local immersive tourism experiences with Penghu-themed specialty tours and the Penghu Seaweed Cultural Experience to promote a new form of off-peak tourism. In continuing the brand of the 9th Penghu Autumn Festival, the Penghu NSA Headquarters plans to organize a series of distinct events during the off-peak seasons (spring, autumn, winter). These may include the Penghu Good Food Festival, Old Fort Concert, Landscape Art Performances, Art Dance Troupe Shows, and more, aiming to maximize the marketing benefits during the off-peak tourism periods.

Lastly, Director-General Hung emphasized that the vision of the Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters is to transform Penghu into an internationally recognized sustainable tourism and vacation destination. To align with international standards and the vision of transforming Penghu into a globally recognized sustainable tourism and vacation destination, the administration will prioritize ecological education, sustainable tourism practices, universal accessibility, off-peak tourism promotion, and overseas marketing. Going forward, the plan is to foster close collaboration with partners in both the public and private sectors, jointly expanding domestic and international visitor sources. The collective effort aims to enhance the overall quality of tourism throughout the year, paving the way for a new and prosperous era in Penghu's tourism industry.
