The Penghu National Scenic Area Administration held the event “Visit the Bay – Exhibition of Specimen of Green Sea Baby Turtles at Changlaizai”

The Penghu National Scenic Area Administration, Tourism Bureau, MOTC, held the event “Visit the Bay – Exhibition of Specimen of Green Sea Baby Turtles” at Changlaizai on May 6 at 10:40 AM in the Wangan Green Turtle Tourism and Conservation Center. Five specimens of green sea baby turtles displayed in this event were discovered by Mr. Hsu, a volunteer, on September 30, 2020 in the morning at Changlaizai beach in Wangan. One of them is the specimen of an albino green sea baby turtle. Based on environmental education awareness, the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration received the specimen from the Agriculture and Fisheries Penghu County Government and decided to display these specimens on May 6 at Wangan Green Turtle Tourism and Conservation Center.

Chen Ching Hui, the senior executive officer of Penghu County, gave the baby turtle specimens to the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration during her previous tenure as the director-general of Agriculture and Fisheries Penghu County Government for ecological tourism promotion. Hsu Tsung Min, the director of Penghu National Scenic Area Administration, stated that after the green sea baby turtles were handed over to the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration, they will be made into specimens by the National Museum of Natural Science professionally and will be displayed at a specific area in the Wangan Green Turtle Tourism and Conservation Center. In this area, information in digital and hard copy form will be provided to describe the rarity of albino green sea turtles and the achievement in the conservation of green sea turtles in Wangan.

The grand opening began with singing and dancing musical performance of Wangan Junior High School and Wangan Elementary School’s students. To thank volunteers for providing the videos they shot for albino green sea turtles voluntarily for environmental education purposes, Penghu National Scenic Area Administration awarded the volunteers the certificate of appreciation during the event. Guests of the event raised the curtain with ocean style. The long-lost specimens of green sea baby turtles at Changlaizai were revealed before all eyes. There were not only briefing of survey and conservation of green sea turtle after the reveal, but also displayed the arts achievement of these years by Wangan Elementary School with students narrated their creative idea of the work. The shrink plastic DIY course introduced for local community elderly based on love and care was also presented.

Through this event, it is expected to deepen the spirit of green sea turtle conservation in children’s minds and also hoped to promote the ecological resource in Wangan to tourists in Penghu. These tourists are encouraged to visit Wangan to see the green sea turtles, hoping that they will value ocean conservation and sustainable tourism.
