The 2011 Penghu Fireworks Festival will begin on April 25, 2011 and last until June 30, 2011 at the Recreation Park of Guanyin Pavilion, Magong City, Penghu.
During the festival period, a variety of activities will be held every Monday and Thursday from 19:30 to 21:00 on the main stage area. After that, a 15-minute fireworks display will take place at the Hsiying Archway Bridge. Everyone is welcome to join the festivity.
This year the fireworks display will be divided into three creative sessions, “Rabbit Delivers Auspicious Signs to the Gaillardia Island of Penghu,” “Shining Pearls of the Sea,” and “Laughter and Joy.” The firework display will begin with “burning Chinese characters” like “Penghu” and “Taiwan,” followed by Ggaillardia patterns celebrating the hundredth birthday of the country. Smaller fireworks will also be set from sampans. In total, more than a hundred types of fireworks will show up in the sky. Some fireworks will even be displayed in water to welcome festival goers.
Internationally renowned Chinese crosstalk group “Hsiang Sheng Wa She” and folks singers from Penghu, such as Chen Hung-Ming, Kao Zhi-Han, and Luo Wen-Tsung, will perform on the opening night. Various other concerts will also be held, such as Night of Matthew Lean, Night of Apple Stars, Night of Fireworks and Folk Songs (by Wang Rui-Yu and Chen Hung-Ming), Night of Jazz, Night of Paiwan Nose Flute (by Chang Chung-Li), Night of Profound Love (by Bread Van Music Band), Night of Dancing Fireworks (by award-winning singer Guan Ling-Zhi), and the Gaillardia Island Singing Contest that gives more than NT$200,000 cash prizes. The mascot of 7-ELEVEN convenience stores, “OPEN,” will also perform on the festival stage.
