The Lintou Beach in the Huxi Township borders the Lintou Park and the Aimen Beach. The fine-grained sands here look like gold dust, hence the nickname Lintou “Golden” Beach.” The “Shell Church” art installation was conceived with elements of sand, seashells, love, tides, and rhythm. The exterior is a heart-shell design. A four-leaf clover with a heart-shaped hollow on the roof casts different shadows depending on the time of day. The church’s rhythmic interplay of light and shadow is another beach highlight.
After taking in the romantic beach scenery, you can learn about dragnetting here, one of the traditional methods early Penghu pioneers used to catch fish. As fishing gear improved and lifestyles changed, this fishing method has declined –– and it’s now a tourist activity. Today, the Lintou Village is one of the few places in Penghu where you can still experience it.
Dragnet fishing is conducted in shallow offshore waters in areas devoid of underwater reefs. Dusk and dawn are the best times. Fishermen first sail a small boat from shore and drop the fishing net into the water. After the net's ends are secured onshore, fishermen pull the net to the coast, hauling the catch. Fish vary seasonally, but trevally, jack mackerel and squid are the most common. If the net contains minnows or inedible sea creatures, they are released back into the ocean.
