During the early days of land reclamation in Ch’ing Dynasty, the terrain here was relatively lower with abundant water resource and rich fertile soil, green vegetables were growing lushly in large patches, so the place was named "Caiyuan" ("cai: means vegetable, "yuan" means "garden"). Caiyuan is situated southeast of Magong Island, close to the inner bay northeast of the inland sea; the rich oceanic resources housed here enables a diversified ecology park, including culture fishery, wetland ecology and shallow coral ground. Like all fishing ports, Caiyuan Fishing Port also has fresh fishes from the sea, but the main feature here is the thriving culture fishery – oyster and near-sea net cage culture, combine with leisure and tourism, activities such as BBQ oyster and feeding cobia are now available, allowing tourists to experience the fun of feeding fish out on the sea, and to taste the lovely fresh seafood.
