To showcase Penghu’s expanding cycling network and promote low-carbon green transportation and sports tourism, the Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters, Tourism Administration, MOTC is launching the 2025 Penghu Cycling Festival, including: “Spring & Autumn Guided Bicycle Tours,” “World Bicycle Day - Hi-Ride Penghu” and “101 Hopping Bike.” Cyclists across Taiwan are invited to enjoy the sea breeze, savour ocean flavours, and bike at 20 km/h through one of the world’s most beautiful bays.

In recent years, the PNSAH has been actively promoting green and sustainable sports tourism, especially through its long-standing initiative - the free guided cycling service, which has earned a strong reputation and brand recognition within Taiwan’s cycling community. As the first of its kind in the country, this guided service enters its 14th year in 2025 and continues to be loved by cyclists nationwide. Each year, during the spring (March 1 to June 30) and autumn (September 1 to October 31) seasons, cycling enthusiasts or teams of five or more people can sign up at least seven days in advance using the official registration form. Participants will then have the opportunity to follow local cycling guides, or true experts of the region, on some of the most scenic routes along the world-renowned Penghu Bay.

The second major highlight aligns with 2025 World Bicycle Day. Organized by the Tourism Administration, MOTC, the “Hi-Ride Penghu” event is part of a nationwide cycling initiative. This special ride kicks off at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, June 3, starting at the Hai-chu Land Art Landmark (Peng 8-1). Cyclists will cruise past Penghu’s iconic sights, including Tongliang Great Banyan Tree, Penghu Great Bridge, and Fish Leaping for Joy Landmark. As they ride, participants will be treated to the vast skies, sweeping sea views, and refreshing ocean breezes of Baisha and Xiyu Townships - with larks singing above and clouds drifting lazily in the sky, offering a tranquil, immersive journey through nature. In line with the “Smiley South Bay” theme, the ride concludes at the Xiaomen Geological Discovery Hall, where a professional tour will guide participants through the area’s fascinating geological features. This event celebrates cycling not only as a sport but also as a sustainable, eco-friendly, and healthy lifestyle - inviting participants to experience the beauty of Penghu while actively supporting green tourism. Registration for "Hi-Ride Penghu" is now open! The event is limited to 100 participants, and those who complete the ride will receive a special gift: a shoe-carrying bag. It promises to be a fun, educational, and exhilarating cycling experience.

The most anticipated event is the grand finale - the “101 Hopping Bike”, set for Sunday, September 28. This cycling event offers two divisions: 101K Challenge and 22K Leisure Ride. Participants will ride through scenic locations such as Shili Beach, Suogang Cycling Rest Station, Kuibishan in Beiliao, Penghu Great Bridge, and Yuwengdao Lighthouse. The route is rich in local culture and natural beauty, showcasing the distinctive island charm of Penghu. Along the way, rest stops will offer local specialties such as brown sugar cake and Penghu salty biscuits. At the finish line, cyclists will be treated to a feast of Penghu-style cuisine, including Seafood porridge made with fresh cobia and oysters, squid balls, moon shrimp cakes, fried anchovies, and much more - a true culinary celebration to reward every rider!

Registration fees for this event are NT$1,000 for the 101K Challenge division and NT$600 for the 22K Leisure division. Participants will receive a windproof cycling vest, an eco-friendly commemorative T-shirt (available in standard and eco versions), a digital certificate of completion, and - for 101K riders only - a shoe-carrying bag. This year’s finisher medal is especially creative - designed in the shape of a classic Alpine-style cowbell, making it both a keepsake and a charming decorative item. Additionally, Penghu County residents can enjoy discounted registration, and all participants may access special tourism offers and optional island-hopping cycling tour packages across Baisha and Nanhai, Penghu.

With its uniquely stunning island landscapes and well-developed cycling facilities, PNSAH Director Chen-ling Kuo hopes to continue enhancing the Penghu Cycling Festival. Beginning with its professional guided rides, the festival aims to shape Penghu into a year-round cycling destination. Unlike conventional tourism, the festival introduces diverse and distinctive travel experiences to attract visitors to Penghu. Through slow-paced and in-depth exploration, it encourages longer stays and offers greater overall value for travelers.

The PNSAH invites all cycling and sports enthusiasts to sign up now. Current activities accepting registration include:
