New Ways to Travel and Have Fun in Penghu! Discover Penghu through 10 Themed Tours and Take Part in Alternate In-Depth Tourism with the Local Community!
The “Tourism Forward Looking Tourism Construction Plan – Building of Charming Tourist Attractions” was launched by the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration (Penghu-NSA) of the Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, to promote local community industries, stimulate the development of the tourism industry as a whole, improve the quality of leisure services at each scenic area, and adopt a brand-oriented approach to development. The improvement of tourism infrastructure in Penghu and in-depth development of local tourist attractions aim to create “Wave Penghu” as the tourism brand for Penghu’s Gold Coast. The Penghu Gold Coast Touring Route Press Conference was held today (5/10). Director Chiu Yung-sheng of Magong Airport, Civil Aeronautics Administration, MOTC, Director Wang Wen-chiang of the Penghu Motor Vehicle Station, Kaohsiung Motor Vehicles Office, Directorate General of Highways, MOTC, Director Chang Chin-shiung of the Penghu Weather Station, Central Weather Bureau, MOTC, Secretary-General Lu Chun-tien of the Penghu County Government, Deputy Director Liu Mei-fan of the Tourism Department, Penghu County Government, President Huang Yo-ping of National Penghu University of Science and Technology, and various guests from the tourism industry all took part in the conference. The new themed travel packages connect the top seven scenic areas of Siaomenyu Geopark and Whale Cave, Kueibishan Geopark on Beiliao, Liwan Recreation Area on Cimei, Donghai Recreation Area, Lintou Beach, Aimen Beach, and Sanshui Beach. These along with the diverse real-world activities planned for the second half of the year will introduce everyone to a very different side of Penghu.
Penghu-NSA Director Hsu Tzung-min said that Patrick and Lena from the YouTube China “Travel North Taiwan” were invited to take part as they explore the beauty of travel in Taiwan from a foreigner’s perspective. Along with special celebrity guest Annie they recorded a sneak preview of the exquisitely designed Coral Sea Water Park in Liwan, Cimei, and the magnificent sight of the parting of the sea at Kueibishan on Beiliao. Celine Pao, the young actress from the PTS drama Monstrous Me also visited Shanshui Beach where the sky meets the sea to give the classic Gold Coast route a test run. She even took part in the traditional beach seine event at Lintou Beach for an in-depth experience of Penghu. Beach seine involves fishing boats towing a fishing net about 500 meters away from the shore. Fishermen on the shore then use special hooked strings to pull the fishing net together. This was once a common fishing method on Penghu’s shoreline and is still used in some areas during winter. Penghu NSA hopes that the combination of popular attractions, aquatic activities, and traditional experiences in a learning-through-play format will introduce the general public to the traditional fishing methods, fishing village life, and marine ecological sustainability in Penghu. It will also bring more development opportunities for the local communities and give even more variety for visitors to Penghu.
For the Gold Coast route, “Wave Penghu” reached out to the local community and hosted three engagement workshops to consolidate local resources and devise travel packages. Local features including the geology, beaches, aquatic activities, cycling, local culture, cultural creativity industry, and special agricultural produce were all packaged into innovative circular tourism itineraries and special travel products. The 10 “Wave Penghu” themed routes consist of 4 classic all-seasons routes and 6 Gold Coast routes that visitors can enjoy all-year round including island-hopping and gull-watching in spring, weir tours and star watching in summer, strange rocks and geography in fall, and a history tour in winter. In addition to the fun travel itineraries, three local traditional experiences will be held between August and November 2022 including beach seine at Lintou Beach with the Lintou Community Development Association, wind-surfing at Shili Beach with the Chinese Sports and Leisure Promotion Association, and the “Chenggong Hohai-P” hand fishing net「成功鱟黑P」擼漁栽 with the Chenggong Community Development Association. Several exclusive cross-over marketing products have also been launched including the limited edition “Wave Penghu” beer from the Zhangmen Brewery, and a portable fan from the Taiwanese original design brand BONE. Participating local vendors in Penghu introduce limited edition scallop paste and sardine paste from Wan Tai Food and limited edition boxes from Hey New Black Cake, while Dian Jiag Jia, Penghu Uncle, and Pong Food have come up with their own related products as well. A visit to Penghu’s Gold Coast is not just fun - it’s also a chance to buy brand-name gifts in special limited-edition packaging.
