The “2015 Taiwan Cycling Festival – Formosa900” grand event hosted by the Tourism Bureau, MOTC, will kick off on November 14, 2015. Throughout Taiwan, 20 different cycling organizations will take turns to complete a cycling journey around Taiwan. The Tourism Bureau especially moved one of the theme events “Penghu Island-hopping Riders” to be held at Penghu in order to encourage citizens to travel to Penghu in autumn and winter.
The “Penghu Island-hopping Riders” was led by Deputy Director General Liu Hsilin of the MOTCas group leader, who led an entourage of 20 people including colleagues from the MOTC and cycling enthusiasts from all over Taiwan. Starting on November 14, they would embark on a three-day bicycle journey to explore every coastal bikeway in Penghu to enjoy the warm winter sun and the thrill of riding with the wind. At the same time, they would also take their bicycles onto the offshore island of Jibei to begin a new chapter for their offshore island cycling journey.
Today (14th) at around 11:00, a warm welcome and departure ceremony was held at the arrival lounge of Penghu Airport. In his speech, Deputy Director General Liu Hsilin expressed that: “Since the Tourism Bureau launched the” Penghu Island-hopping Riders event last year (2014), it has received wide praises from the participants. It is hoped to combine the slow and in-depth experience of cycling with diverse local cultural features of Penghu, such as tourist attractions, gourmet delicacies, and specialty products, to create an island-hopping challenge and experience, so as to promote Penghu’s unique cycling tourism environment. Furthermore, in conjunction with media promotion, the aim is to demonstrate the government’s determination in promoting Penghu’s autumn/winter tourism.
