The Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters of the Tourism Administration, MOTC, held the “Sustainability x Gallardia Islands: Marine Sustainable Tourism Forum and Green Travel Market” on October 12, 2025. Through its dual focus on a professional forum and outdoor market, the event gathered experts from industry, government, and academia, alongside local businesses, to exchange insights on marine conservation and sustainable travel. An outdoor market featuring nearly 30 stalls promoting green and sustainable lifestyles attracted close to 700 participants, underscoring Penghu’s strong commitment to promoting marine protection and sustainable tourism.

The forum featured Ocean Conservation Administration Director-General Shiau-Yun Lu, who delivered a keynote speech on “Marine Conservation and Habitat Restoration”, highlighting Taiwan’s latest efforts in ocean resource protection. Professor Chun-Chieh Hu of National Penghu University of Science and Technology presented the achievements of the Wang’an Marine Ecotourism Area, while Kuo-Hsiung Hung, founder of the Penghu Zooxanthellae Association, shared perspectives on “Island Wisdom and Sustainable Tourism”, exploring local knowledge and tourism transformation trends. In the case study session, local ecotourism operators shared their experiences from the Wang’an Marine Ecotourism Area. Ya-Ling Chen (Dongfu Marine Leisure Co., Ltd.), Coach Man-Huang Chen (Island 77 Co., Ltd.), and Hua-Sui Hsu (Fun Collector International Entertainment Co., Ltd.) each showcased how their tours integrate marine education, coral restoration, and ecological experiences to deepen visitor engagement.

Kuei-Fen Li, CEO of Bliss Tour, discussed “From Traveler to Guardian: Decoding Ocean Cultural DNA to Create New Opportunities for Sustainable Tourism”, encouraging travelers to evolve from consumers into protectors of marine culture. Chun-Ju Lin, CEO of Ecotour Taiwan Travel Service, introduced “Sustainable Tourism Design Thinking”, which promotes local agriculture and eco-learning experiences to reveal the beauty of Taiwan’s natural environment.

The Green Travel Market, held concurrently, offered visitors a hands-on sustainable lifestyle experience. The event featured eco-friendly booths showcased local foods, handicrafts, and environmental education initiatives. A creative “Sustainability Coin” system—made from Leucaena wood—replaced paper meal coupons, allowing participants to redeem goods flexibly while reducing paper waste and food surplus.

The Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters expressed hope that the event would inspire the public to adopt sustainability in everyday travel and consumption habits. Moving forward, the Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters will continue advancing sustainable tourism, fostering collaboration among local operators and travelers to build a marine-friendly, environmentally responsible, and sustainable Penghu.
