Organized by the Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters of the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications (hereinafter referred to as Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters), the 2nd “2025 Spring Wangan Island Hopping Half-Marathon Carnival (2025春季望安跳島半馬嘉年華)” will kick off with great enthusiasm on Sunday, March 23, 2025. Building on the momentum of the autumn Gaillardia Islands Penghu Cross-Sea Marathon, this spring event invites runners to experience the unique charm of Wangan’s island-town ambiance while gearing up for Penghu’s peak tourist season. We warmly welcome all running enthusiasts to register and join the excitement!
Wangan Township, a secondary offshore island of Penghu County, offers stunning coastal views, diverse cultural experiences, and unique support stations. The Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters has crafted this tourism-oriented race to suit runners of all ages, featuring three categories: a 21K Half-Marathon (21K半馬組), 10K Fun Run (10K健跑組), and 6K Leisure Run (6K休閒組). Participants will enjoy scenic routes while running, taking in not only azure seas, pristine beaches, verdant grasslands, and traditional settlements but also the tranquil, simple island lifestyle of Wangan. Its year-round romantic charm provides a unique backdrop, allowing each runner to chase dreams carried by ocean breezes, embrace nature, dance in harmony with the sea, and create a personal journey filled with unforgettable memories.
This year’s race offers exceptional value, with registration perks including a commemorative T-shirt, locally inspired popcorn balls, handmade brown sugar cakes, stamped Penghu texturized stones, and a NT$100 voucher redeemable at businesses across Wangan. Exclusive tourism packages are also available in collaboration with local industries, featuring 1- to 3-day flight-and-hotel packages, along with discounts on accommodations, specialty stores, and dining options on Magong, Wangan, and General Islet (將軍嶼). After the race, participants can enjoy local experiences such as kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, a “Salute to the Ocean (向海致敬)” beach cleanup, DIY brown sugar cake workshops, and guided tours through the historical Wangan Huazhai Ancient Residences, led by knowledgeable volunteers. This event promises to deliver an unforgettable blend of sport and culture.
Beyond boosting Wangan’s tourism economy, the event also integrates public welfare and community support. Runners can opt to add NT$450 during registration to purchase a St. Camillus Hospital Penghu Reconstruction Project mascot piggy bank – “Pingan Turtle (平安龜)”. For every purchase, the Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters will donate NT$500 in the runner’s name to the St. Camillus Hospital Penghu Reconstruction Fund, combining fitness with philanthropy. Let’s run for love and a great cause!
According to the Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters, this event is part of their ongoing efforts to expand Penghu's “sports tourism (運動度假)” potential. In addition to the annual Gaillardia Islands Penghu Cross-Sea Marathon held every November, the 2025 spring Wangan Marathon, affectionately known as the “Mini Gaillardia Marathon (小菊馬),” will invite runners to experience Wangan’s azure oceans, golden beaches, and lush grasslands on foot. The event aims to highlight Wangan’s emerging appeal as a marine destination, ecological sanctuary, and leisure getaway, while supporting sustainable development goals by shaping Wangan’s new marine charm, ecological haven, and leisurely travel highlights.
The Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters invites all sports tourism enthusiasts to mark their calendars for the Wangan Marathon on March 23, 2025. Don’t miss this incredible experience!
