The 2025 Penghu Music Festival, organized by the Penghu National Scenic Area Headquarters of the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications (hereinafter referred to as the Penghu NSA Headquarters), has recently gained international recognition for its light art installations that blend rich local cultural elements with cohesive spatial aesthetics. The featured light art exhibition, “Luminous Island Ceremony,” received multiple prestigious international honors, including Gold at the London Design Awards, Gold at the French Design Awards, and an Honorable Mention at the LIT Lighting Design Awards (Switzerland). These accolades have once again brought Penghu’s distinctive natural landscapes and cultural character to the global stage, while showcasing the excellence of Taiwan’s lighting design and artistic innovation.
Curated under the theme “N Ways to Experience Penghu in Autumn and Winter,” the award-winning exhibition was created through collaboration among professional art teams. Using engaging and intuitive light-based storytelling, the installations depict Penghu’s local customs and travel memories. The works also respond to Penghu’s strong autumn winds, incorporating creative concepts such as “riding the wind,” “breaking through the wind,” “chasing the wind,” and “playing with sea breezes.” By integrating light, wind, sound, and natural landscapes, the exhibition offers visitors an immersive nighttime experience that reflects Penghu’s unique cultural heritage and historical context.
The Penghu NSA Headquarters noted that the festival not only interprets the island’s distinctive environment shaped by strong northeast monsoons, but also combines traditional lantern craftsmanship with modern technologies such as mechanical interaction and 3D holographic projection. As a result, the light installations go beyond static displays to become interactive artistic experiences that resonate with visitors. The recognition of the festival’s overall lighting design by multiple international awards highlights both the depth of Penghu’s tourism branding and its growing potential as a fall and winter travel destination.
Building on this international success, the Penghu NSA Headquarters announced that the 2026 Penghu Music Festival will take place from September 12 to October 11 at the Guanyinting Recreation Area in Magong. This upcoming edition will continue the high design standards of previous award-winning showcases, incorporating Penghu’s unique geological landscapes and maritime culture to present a new series of light art installations.
Director-General Kuo Chen-ling of the Penghu NSA Headquarters stated that the integration of music and light art effectively attracts visitors from outside Penghu to explore the island’s culture and scenic beauty in greater depth. The festival aims to offer visitors a relaxed and immersive experience in the gentle autumn breeze, positioning it as Penghu’s signature “chill” seasonal event. Looking ahead, the Penghu NSA Headquarters will continue to promote local tourism development, deepen the interpretation and innovative application of local culture, and enhance Penghu’s international visibility and brand image. The public is warmly invited to take part in this internationally acclaimed annual event and experience the unique charm of Penghu in autumn.
