Although the 2020 Penghu Bay International Light Festival, held from September 12 to this year, had successfully drawn to a close on November 14, the Theme Light District was awarded the Silver Medal in the "Lighting Design" category of the New York Design Awards, a prestigious international competition organized by DRIVENxDESIGN AWARD PROGRAMS and its international design alliance on December 10, 2020! This year, the Light Festival invited the acclaimed multi award-winning artist Camay Peng as the curator of the Theme Light District. During the exhibition, various artworks successively won the gold medal in the "Art Event" Category of the Muse Creative Awards for demonstrating the rich localized cultural and artistic heritage of Penghu. The Muse Creative Awards is organized by the IAA International Awards Association, which is internationally influential in design circles. The news of another big win at an international competition further adds to the international spotlight on Penghu!

The New York Design Awards, held annually by DRIVENxDESIGN AWARD PROGRAMS, draws global design alliances from major cities such as Melbourne, Sydney, New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Brisbane, and evaluates tens of thousands of outstanding design pieces from all over the world. Winning the prize under such intense competition is truly a rare and laudable accomplishment. The "2020 Penghu Bay International Light Festival" Theme Light District won the international jury's favor for its outstanding lighting works and exhibit of core values. Winning major international awards is indeed the best global publicity of Taiwan’s art scene and can deeply impress the world with the soft power and momentum of Taiwan's art and design circles.

The Penghu Bay International Light Festival, which came to a successful close in mid-November, adopted "Island Paradise" as the main theme of the exhibition and was chosen to be held in the Jinlongtou Park near the seaport in downtown Magong City. The event also transformed this vacant former navy port into a magnificent pearl of the sea, revitalizing local development, repair, and landscape reconstruction, and received the support and praise from many Penghu residents. The festival attracted more than 150,000 visitors, which made Penghu no longer lonely in the autumn and winter low season and re-energized local tourism development. It also spotlighted the area’s unique island culture to the international community.

Now that the end of 2020 is approaching, this extravaganza of lighting art can perhaps provide more cultural support and reflections on creating tourism value if the many visual spectacles can genuinely reflect the exhibition's core spirit and combine the trajectory of the local artistic scene and historical heritage. Even if the distance of time and space will isolate people from each other, but through the borderless reach of electronic media and the internet, any artistic exhibition with cultural value will be worthy of spread. Just as the four international awards (Theme Light Display - Gold Medal in "Art Exhibition Activities" category of the IAA International Muse Creative Design Award, Silver Medal - "Lighting Design" Category of the New York Design Awards, Turtle comes, Luck comes - Silver Medal in the Art Design Category, Italian International Design Award A’ Design Grand Prix, Worry-free Garden - Bronze Award in Handicraft Design, Italian International Design Award A’ Design Grand Prix) were all awarded to art pieces in the "2020 Penghu Bay International Light Festival," when the international community is constantly seeking new themes for the propagation of art and culture, the splendid culture of Taiwan is worthy of their attention. With the repeated recognition of international awards, Penghu's attractions as a pure and beautiful island with splendid culture will eventually be seen by many people around the world and will radiate infinitely like the beautiful memories from the light festival!
