The “2022 Four Season of Penghu Tourism” initiated by the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration (PNSAA) began right after the Lunar New Year. Thanks to the efforts of the tourism industry, a tour on the “Turtle-granting Bus” and a series of “light winter tourism at ancient sites” activities have been put together and introduced to the public. Penghu welcomes those longing to experience a different type of winter tourism.

To promote this initiative, a press conference was held at 2pm on February 8 at the Penghu Tourism Promotion Center - Coni Marine Biotech Center hosted by the Director of the PNSAA, Hsu Tsung-Min. Many guests attended the press conference including Director Huang Tong-Cheng of Legislator Wu I-ding's Service Office, Vice Chairman Chen Shuang-Chuan of Penghu County Council, Director-General Hung Tung-Lin of Cultural Affairs Bureau of Penghu County, Deputy Director Liu Mei-Fan of Penghu Tourism Department, Magong City Mayor Yeh Chu-Lin, Representative Huang Hsu-Hui of City Resident Representative Council, Director Chang Chin-Hsiung of Penghu Weather Station, Chief Hung Jui-Ta of Longmen Village (Anliang Temple), Chairman Weng Chi-Chin of Penghu Ziwei Temple, Chairman Chen Ming-Hua of Nanjia Hailing Temple‎, as well as representatives from the tourism airline industries. The press conference was opened by children from Minyuan kindergarten. Their performance was divided into 2 sections: the first section was a festive dance and for the second, they introduced Penghu’s local characteristics such as: masked women, dried squid and fish, local snacks and Turtle-granting activities. Another highlight of this press conference was introducing Turtle-granting in the temple and light winter tourism.

The first light winter tour will last for one month, running from February 11 to March 13. The tour includes 3 classic itineraries, including Southern Line's Fongguei Cave & Temples” Tour, Northern Line’s “Secret Fantasy” Tour, Huxi Line's “Farming and Fishing Villages” Tour. Dates of Southern Line - February 11, February 18, February 25, March 4, March 11 (departs every Friday); Northern Line - February 12, February 19, February 26, March 5, March12 (departs every Saturday); Huxi Line - February 13, February 20, February 27, March 6, March 13 (departs every Sunday) - a total of 15 tours. By taking tourists to experience a deeper side of Penghu, including military-style historical monuments, Five Camps, Shigandang, the pagoda, and its local temple culture, it is hoped that it will further drive the development of Penghu tourism.

The “Lantern Festival Turtle-granting Bus” will be taking tourists to local temples. The buses will be making their first public appearance on February 15, and are available from February 15 to February 18 on the “Huxi Line and Southern Line” and “Northern Line”; and February 15 to February 20 on the Northern Line. The tours provide a great opportunity for visitors to pray for the New Year and celebrate the Lantern Festival in Penghu.

According to the Director Hsu Tsung-Min of the PNSAA, to add more fun to Lantern Festival, from February 14 to February 20, gifts will be given from the counter of the Tourist Service Center at Penghu Airport. Interactive games will be held at the counter including “Check-in gift”: those who “like” and “check in” at Gaillardia Island - Penghu National Scenic Area Fans Group will receive a postcard. To echo the spirit of the Lantern Festival, an event for riddles will also be organized where participants who answer correctly will have a chance to win a postcard, waterproof bag, water bottle bag, or bandana. Another fun game is where the visitor throws divination blocks and if the bocks land one flat and another block round 3 times, the visitor will win a Turtle-granting cake. Visitors can also get a stamp card with proof of identification: stamps can be collected at designated temples. Once 5 stamps are collected, the visitor can claim a free “green turtle plush toy” at the Tourist Service Center, Penghu Airport as well as a “raffle ticket”. Please note that green turtle plush toys are subject to availability (there are a total of 700 with 100 given away everyday). After events are completed, prizes will be drawn on February 25. Winners will be announced on the PNSAA website and fans pages.

Due to the pandemic, we urge tourists to wear a mask at all times, keep an eye on their health condition, and frequently wash their hands. If you have a fever or symptoms of a cold, please stay at home (the events will be flexibly adjusted in accordance with the latest COVID-19 announcements). A statement must be signed prior to taking part in any events. Events may be canceled in line with COVID-19 prevention requirements as announced by the Central Epidemic Command Center. Any cancellation made by the PNSAA will be announced.
