The “2020 Penghu Bay International Light Festival” was held over two months. The show on November 14 started with a passionate singing performance by the NPU Music Club. Ann, an ethereal singer-songwriter, entered the stage, and the audience sang together along with her. During intermission, a throwback video on the events this year was played on the stage monitor. The guests and audience were awed and moved by the glistening lighting and the tourists happily strolling through the venue on the video. The grand finale was performed by Power Station, a top rock band. The audience kept spirits high to the end while enjoying the sonorous, zealous songs. This great performance made the light festival exciting to the end and drew a perfect ending for the light festival this year.

“Island Paradise” is the theme of the light festival this year. It’s based on local humanity, industry implementation, and sustainable development. Creative, unique lighting works were built with the integration of technological, cultural, and marine factors. International and national artists were invited to build the three themed light display areas and light shows. The light works illuminated Jinlongtou during the exhibition. Jinlongtou became a must-visit spot for autumn and winter trips in Penghu. The light works in the themed light display areas and art light display areas became world known and won numerous awards. The themed light display areas, including “Song of the Island,” the main lantern of the festival, were planned based on the theme “Island Humanity.” Glamorous water shows were performed in these areas. The surrounding lighting works were great attractions and photo spots. During the exhibition, the lighting works were honored with the Muse Design Awards Showroom/Exhibit Gold Award by the International Awards Associates (IAA). The themes of the art light display areas were art, culture, and technological interaction. “Turtle comes, luck comes” and “Worry-free Garden” were honored with the A’ Design Award Arts Design Silver Award and the A’ Design Award Crafts Design Bronze Award, respectively. The Italian A’ Design Award is known as “the Oscar in the design industry.” The lighting works in this festival successfully combined the culture and arts in Penghu and showed the beauty of the island to the world.

Besides diverse lighting works, 14 themed stage shows were held at night during the event. In addition to local performing arts groups in Penghu, over 30 singers were invited to the event and 15 of them are GMA nominees. The stage performances were performed by these awesome, famous singers, and no wonder they were wonderful. Wubai & China Blue performed at the grand opening and attracted an audience of 16,000. Thousands of fans visited Penghu for the popular singers performed on other days. The stage looked as glamorous as ever with all these singers and the audience during the festival.

The mermaid is the main lantern of the year in the themed light display areas. It integrated with water shows on the sea and the diverse technological lightings in the art light display areas created a new style and highlight of lighting performance. These display areas combined with local arts and culture and stroke a chord in the local community. Statistics show about a 20% growth in the number of tourists from September to October this year compared to last year, the highest number ever. The recognition by these tourists will continue to stimulate tourism in autumn and winter in Penghu. To build a better tourism environment and enhance the artistic ambience, the main lantern, lightings in the art light display areas, and the light environment will be kept in custody by the central and local authorities and private sectors. They will be exhibited in tourist spots in Penghu to create a new landmark and highlight for Penghu tourism to continue to illuminate.
