Completed in 2023, the Suogang Bicycle Rest Area is on the list of “must-visit” selfie locations for cyclists. We invited contemporary Taiwanese artist Hung Yito create a colorful artwork representing local diversity and culture. The number “15” is a symbol of Penghu’s 1 city and 5 townships, a gold-colored moray eel with its sinuous curves forms the letter L, a cart wheel and the characters for Penghu form “OVE,” while the character for “Hu” resembles the character for “Tide.” In addition to the LOVE bicycle mark, there is also the “Heart Swan” with a long, slim neck curved into the universal heart symbol. The graphics on the swan body incorporates local Penghu elements and auspicious symbols to make the artwork feel all the cheerful and festive. There is also a bicycle repair pillar in the rest area equipped with tolls for cyclists to carry out repairs in the field. These ensure that cyclists and their rides are all in top condition. 

The Penghu-Gaillardia Island route is the only offshore island route out of the 16 diversity cycling routes. Suogang Bicycle Rest Area is located in Suogang Village, Penghu and is the first bicycle rest area in the southern Penghu region of the Gaillardia Island route. It provides cyclists with a rest area and features bicycle-themed art installations designed by internationally renowned artists. The paving even features paintings of marine creatures so that it not only serves as a rest area for cyclists but also a tourist attraction. The combination of landscape aesthetics raises the profile of the southern Penghu scenic area. The fusion of land art and environmental space encourages visitors to explore well-known local destinations such as Fenggui Cave, Shanshui Beach and Jin-an kayaking experience, some of the most beautiful sea bay scenery in the world found in Penghu.
