The promotional videos for the Penghu tourism union produced in 2022 by the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration (Penghu NSA) of the Tourism Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, has been recognized with three awards (two gold, one silver) in the categories “Video/Travel” and “Video/Lifestyle” at the MUSE Creative Awards hosted by the International Awards Association (IAA) in the United States. There are even more good news for the Overall Light Environment Design at the “2022 Penghu Music Festival!”. The festival had previously won a gold award in the Landscape Design (New) - Landscape Renovation category of the TITAN Property Awards hosted by the IAA last year. This year, winning the top “Platinum Award” in the Conceptual Design - Exhibition & Events category at the MUSE Design Awards puts Penghu back in the international limelight.

       The design team (CoSquare Studio) made the night sky of Penghu their canvas. As the waves lap against the rocks, circular changes of neon light strips, and the interplay of light and shadow echo the stars of the Milky Way to light up the night. The Penghu Music Festival combines music, wind, and light to present a musical feast of light and fantasy. Under the colorful neon lights, objects of different shapes become interwoven with the local cultural and artistic resources of Penghu. The design team filled each light painting with meaning. For example, the octopus reminds people of Penghu’s traditional “Octopus Light Trapping” activity, while the “Fish Dance” shows a school of fish swimming through the sea with the lights simmering on the waves like sunlight. The fish are grouped together in a show of unity against invaders. The design team cleverly combined local stories with light paintings to give visitors a better understanding of Penghu, and let them see the connections between the people, local culture, and nature through art.

       The 2022 Penghu Music Festival chose sea wind as its unique motif. For the first time, the music festival, artistic lighting and Northeast Monsoon were brought together to transform the festival of lights into a festival of “Wind”, “Light”, “Music” and “Stories” and encourage outside visitors to learn about the local culture and environmental resources of Penghu. The design team experimented with incorporating the overall light environment with the Guanyin Temple Park, a famous tourist attraction in Penghu, to overcome the strong sea winds and create a “Romantic Light Environment” with its own unique character. Their first attempt won international recognition, so expectations are high for this year’s event as well. The 2023 Penghu Music Festival will open on August 19.
