Xiyupingyu, the westernmost of the four southern islands, is about a 25-minute boat ride from Wang'an. It’s very near Dongyupingyu. The two islands have close ties; collectively, they’re called “Banpingyu” or “Yuping.” Hua Niang Temple, Xipingyu’s religious center, is beside the shore. It’s dedicated to Hua Niang, the main deity, but also venerates Wu Shuai, Mazu, and other gods. If you want to visit the village, from the pier you’ll have to walk up a rise called "Heroes’ Slope" There are many old coral stone and basalt houses, but almost all the residents have moved elsewhere.

XiYupingyu is primarily square mesa topography. There are columnar basalt sea cliffs on the east side; meanwhile on the west side, sea trenches and sea caves formed by ocean current erosion are visible along an unbroken line of sea cliffs. Basalt gravel beaches are on the east and north sides, and there’s solitary sea erosion column offshore, not far off the island’s northeast corner; locals call it "Diaozai.” On Xiwei Mountain in the northwest corner, you can gaze out over the islands of Tiezhanyu and Toujinyu. The sea and sky are one color, an exquisitely beautiful blue.

Xiyupingyu not only has a diversity of beautiful landscapes but also boasts a fascinating underwater world. The surrounding ocean teems with many varieties of brightly colored coral––and the reefs here cover a larger area than those around the other southern islands. You can also see branched and desktop-shaped axonal corals, with various marine creatures on the sea bottom, shuttling between the reefs––it's a conservationist’s dream and a snorkeler’s paradise!
