military Dependents Village Cultural Park

Zhongyang Old Streets

Zhongyang Old Streets

The Zhongyang Streets of Penghu was called “the high streets” or “downtown roads” in the old days. As the earliest commercial district of Penghu, the Zhongyang Streets are featured by a dozen of narrow alleys and lanes built in the Qing and Ming Dynasties, indicating the district were quite busy back then.

Mazu Temple

To people who lived by the sea, worshipping Mazu is by far the most important thing to do. Penghu Mazu Temple is the earliest Mazu temple to be established in Taiwan, currently listed as "National Grade One Historic Site". Fishermen along the coast of Fukien established another Mazu Temple in Penghu like the one they had back home to watch over them when they sail out, in the blink of an eye, the Temple has watched over Penghu people for over four hundred years, the Chinese pronunciation of the Mazu Temple is "Magong", which is where the name of Magong City came from. The Temple is not only the landmark of Magong, but also the spiritual symbol of Penghu.

Niaoyu

Niaoyu

In Niaoyu, columnar basalt extends from the east shore to the north shore and has formed dominant sea cliffs. The wave-cut platforms under the cliffs present radial joints of columnar basalt. Due to the erosion by winds and waves, unique onion-like and other varied basalt landscapes have been forming.

Xiaobaishayu

Xiaobaishayu

Xiaobaishayu has varied geological landscapes. In the south of the islet, there is the beautiful white sand beach with a typical sand beak; and there are also sea-cut tofu-shaped beach rocks and potholes. In the east, the tower-like and curved columnar basalt are awfully peculiar.

Yuanbeiyu

Yuanbeiyu

When the tide ebbs, there will be a shallow water path extending from Caoyu to the Guardian Stone; the 4.6km shallow water path can take you to Shagang Village on the other side. The Yuanbeiyu shallow water path is composed of stone plates, stone fragments and coral reefs, it is a sea path which Yuanbeiyu ancestors used to rely on for outside contact, bearing significant historical meaning, adding to the fact that there is a rich shallow sea ecology here, the Yuanbeiyu shallow water path has become a popular wave-chasing route in recent years. The two hour trip will take you on a tour of the rich underwater ecology and coral reefs in Yuanbeiyu, you won’t even have time to blink!
