Squid |
Squid species that are common in Penghu include reddish-skinned Taiwanese inshore squids and transparent-bodied neritic squids. Summer months, June - August, are the peak season. Fishermen travel out to the sea on fishing boats at night; since animals are attracted to light, light is used to lure them in. Sashimi squids have a particularly bouncy and chewy texture, but when stir-fried with vegetables, squids can also make a wonderful drinking companion. Locally known as "a softie ", squids belong to group of mollusks (soft- bodied); their translucent bodies are quite attractive with the shimmering skin. Juicy and rich in protein, Penghu squids taste delicious stir-fried, deep fried or cooked in soup. |
