Tasty Silver Anchovy |

| June to September is the fishing season for silver anchovies. During this time of year, in the hours between nightfall till dawn, a spectacle of fishing takes place in the sea waters between Chihkan and Jibei. Silver anchovies are small when spawned. They grow to a medium size (about 5cm) as they become youth in May, and mature (about 7cm) in July and August. Silver anchovies contain a great quantity of calcium, and make an important fish product in Penghu. Many locals sun-dry the fish to preserve them and many restaurants here serve stir-fried dried silver anchovies with peanuts for the appetizer. |
