Among the tourism routes in Penghu, the natural landscape and ecology of North Sea islets, fishing villages and water activities are the most popular among tourists.
The entire Jibeiyu of Penghu North Sea is 3.1km2 in area, with a coastline of 13km; it is the largest island on the North Sea, and tourists’ favorite spot. The "Sand Beach Beak" southwest of Jibei Island houses a white sand beach extending 800m, mainly composed of corals and shell fragments that were shipped to shore by the sea; it is a spectacular sight when looked down from the air.
The North Sea Recreation Area is surrounded by the wide ocean, Clearwater, blue sky, perfect for all kinds of water activities; definitely the place tourists will come back for more.
"Sianjiaoyu" situated south of Jibeiyu won its name due to the vast amount of submerged reefs around the island (sianjiao means dangerous reefs), and houses rich resources under the sea; the sand beach and its shallow coral ground is the best place for snorkeling and water activities. Tiejhanyu is a classic basaltic hill terrain; many seabirds will come here in summer to dwell and breed, making this the perfect spot for bird-watching. The nearby Gupoyu has an abrasion plateau which will be covered in the best quality wild laver at the end of winter, which is the perfect season for laver harvest.
Mudouyu situated at the north end used to be called "Yuemeiyu" and "Mumeiyu"; it houses a Mudouyu Lighthouse which is over a hundred years old, the tallest lighthouse in Asia; it is now the most eye-catching target on the island.
