Mid-summer is always the best season to capture squids in Penghu. After night falls, scattered fires lit across the pitch black sea form an extremely lively scene. With the rising of tourism, local fishermen designed a "night-fishing for squid" leisure fishery experience activity, where tourists can sail out at night to capture squids, and taste freshly captured squid right there on the boat. Since it is safe, available to all genders and ages, and extremely fun, it is very popular among tourists, quickly becoming the most favored leisure event for Penghu tourism.
During the summer, the largest near-sea catch in Penghu is squid. Squid is phototropic, and they gather towards anything that glows. Using this biological nature, fishermen only need to lower a fishing rod and light, no bait required, and squids will come flying over, open their mouth and bite on the glowing hook, when they will be captured without even getting any bait. |

(1)The temperature is lower out on the sea at night, do not forget to bring a thin jacket. (2)Passengers not familiar with boats may get sea sick, so a pill for motion sickness should be taken half an hour before boarding. (3)A life jacket must be kept on during the entire trip onboard; be careful not to slip and fall during boarding and descending. (4)The squid will squirt sea water and ink once it leaves the water, so, give it a little shake in the air, wait for the water and ink to run out before dissecting the squid; dangling a captured squid in front of other passengers is strictly forbidden. |
